OK, what even is "Internet Discussion" after all?
Maybe on-topic... I am happy to have fiber service to my home as of a
few
months ago. Symmetric 1Gbps with low latency for less than the
1Gb/35Mbps
service from the cable company.

Fiber definitely has been the best internet we've had. 1g up and down
but they have 3 and 6gb plans. I have no endpoints that support that
and not buying new gear. I remember my first DSL was 128k down ... then cable at 1mb ... first was 56k frame relay. Yikes. That was the jam.

Man, I remember the very first time I saw a download at 1megabyte per second. My heart probably skipped a beat. It was on a cablemodem that
used dialup for upstream, even.

Regional provider called Shentel, $65/mo. Comcast for lesser service
was $80 and I had to call them every year to beg for the rate.

I recently upgraded to FTTP.
Now on a 500MBit plan. 50mb/s download speed.
To think that my own internal network was slower. Now I can download
from the Internet faster than I could transfer PC to PC in the 2000s.
i don't like comcast and i dont like charter/spectrum.
with spectrum my bill trippled over 3 years. they also kept raising the rate by small amounts randomly.

I thought 5mbps with LANTastic and 11 mbps with 802.11b was amazing
when they came out. And my daughter was complaining about her net
speeds in her room - she's got a furnace and a breaker box between her
and the AP. She was getting 20 mbps on a speed test...

I've had Time Warner (and now Spectrum) for almost 20 years now,
probably.

More than likely, you had some kind of promotion (or multiple) for
the first year. They will only mention that your promotions are
almost up in small print on your paper bill. If you don't get a paper
bill, you'd never know. Rates go up without warning once that year
is up.
of 'em, in my experience. They will straight up tell you your bill is
going to be <THIS> much, your first bill matches that, and then over
the next 6 months you bill creeps up $10-20 a month and by the time
you notice it's WAY out of hand.
